1. Edward Ludlow is the first mentioned Ludlow in the registers of Kingsey. Where did he come from? Who were his ancestors? The date and place of his birth are not recorded therein, however other family trees have it listed as about 1665, in Kingsey, Buckinghamshire, England. I am unable to confirm these facts.

Origin and birthdate for Edward is currently unknown and one of the priorities for this tree. there are a couple of theories as follows:

  • 1. An Edward Ludlow was born in Steventon, berks about the right time - needs chasing up.
  • 2. An Edward and Elizabeth apparently married in warwickshire at the right time c.f. Barry Ludlow
  • 3. James Herbert who oned Tythrop Park in kingsey when Edward lived in Kingsey was an associate of Edmund Ludlow of Wiltshire - maybe the Herberts gave a Ludlow some land to farm in Kingsey.

According to baptism registers for his children and a burial register entry he married Elizabeth who, again according to the published trees of others, was born around 1670. They had seven children listed in the Kingsey parish registers; Francis, Edward , Francis, Mary, Elizabeth, John and William. Edward (senior) was buried on 16 Feb 1731 and Elizabeth was buried on 22 August 1729.

2. Francis Ludlow son of Edward Ludlow and Elizabeth was baptised on 11 December 1696 at St. Nicholas Church. He was buried at St. Nicholas Church on 21 June 1699 sworn by Margaret Low before Charles Cornish, vicar of Aston Sampford (sic). (No issue).
2. Edward Ludlow son of Edward Ludlow and Elizabeth was baptised on 18 June 1698 at St. Nicholas Church. He was buried on 1 Dec 1774 at St. Nicholas Church and is noted as being a labourer at his death. (It is not known whether he married or had children).
2. Francis Ludlow son of Edward Ludlow and Elizabeth was baptised on 28 Sep 1701 at St. Nicholas Church. He married Mary Hunt of Kingsey on 6 April 1727 at Kingsey. They had five children; Ann, Francis, Mary, Humphrey and William. His wife Mary died in January 1768 and Francis died in April 1773, both in Towersey. He was buried on 1 Apr 1773 at St. Nicholas Church.
